Permissions and copyright

Copyright and permission notes for musicinsight.com.au, including third-party marks and how to request reuse.

Hubs

Copyright in a musical work is automatic in Australia when the song is written down or recorded — APRA AMCOS summarises this under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). Copyright in this website’s compiled text sits with the publication unless a guest agreement says the writer retains it and licenses us.

Third-party marks and words

APRA AMCOS, AMCOS, PPCA, ARIA, AIR, Live Performance Australia, Arts Law Centre of Australia, Support Act, Creative Australia, Fair Work Ombudsman and other names used on this site are the property of their owners. Use on this site is identification, not endorsement.

We do not republish archived magazine interviews, reviews or photo galleries. Those copyrights were never ours to wash through a rebuild.

Using our pages

Short quotation with attribution and a link is the expected way to cite a guide. Scraping the whole library into another commercial site is not. If you want to reuse a substantial passage, ask.

If you are an educator printing a page for a class, say so. That is usually an easy yes.

Music files

Do not send us masters and assume we may host them. We are not your distributor.

What people ask

Questions, answered first

May I reprint a Music Insight guide?
Ask first via the contact form, tell us the context, and wait for a written yes. Short citations with a link are the ordinary scholarly use; whole-page reprints are not.

Request permission

Include the URL, the context, and whether the reuse is commercial.
